Family care arrangements

MOM has a limited arrangement for your helper to care for your child or parent at a relative’s home. Before proceeding, notify MOM and first obtain the helper’s written agreement, ensure she does not perform the full housework load in both households, and meet accommodation requirements if she stays overnight. You remain responsible as employer. This is not general permission to share a helper between homes.
Describe general care duties, work across locations and family backup. Keep full addresses, identity documents and medical records out of this initial message.

MOM's relative-home care FAQ and employment rules explain the arrangement. Check every condition rather than treating them as alternatives:
You remain responsible for upkeep and maintenance, including food, accommodation and medical treatment. Do not assume responsibility transfers to the relative.
Before comparing candidates, write down the general arrangement and the points your family must settle:
A planning example is a child spending part of the day at a grandparent’s home while the employer is at work. Another is a parent receiving care at a sibling’s home. These examples are not Apex placement records or approvals; check the actual employer, care recipient, workload and official conditions for your situation.
Discuss communication, daily duties, travel and family backup in the candidate interview. Describe the combined role rather than assessing work at each home as though a different person will do it. A promising interview does not complete the employment conditions.
For matching, read Apex's child-care or elderly-care service owner and ask what its proposed placement scope covers. If the employer question comes first, see hiring for a retired parent. Check unclear arrangements with MOM before proceeding. Sources checked 17 October 2026.
The conditions are cumulative. A written agreement alone does not replace notification, workload limits or acceptable overnight accommodation.
Questions
MOM’s limited care arrangement can apply if you notify before proceeding, first obtain the helper’s written agreement, ensure no full housework load in both households, and meet accommodation requirements for any overnight stay. Check all conditions for the actual arrangement.
No. Written agreement and notification are separate requirements. Meet the stated conditions and notify MOM before proceeding; do not start first and assume a private agreement is enough.
Do not treat this as general permission to share a helper. It concerns care for your child or parent, and MOM specifically says the helper must not perform the full housework load in both households.
No. Temporary accommodation while the employer travels overseas has separate conditions. Check that process rather than using a care-at-another-home notification for a different purpose.
