What MOM requires

MOM’s well-being guidance sets out the accommodation requirements:

MOM’s stated requirements (from the well-being page):

• A separate room is preferred. If not available, adequate space and privacy for sleeping and changing.
• A mattress, pillow and blanket. A bed frame is not a stated MOM requirement.
• Ventilation: if natural ventilation is insufficient, mechanical ventilation such as a fan. Air conditioning is not a stated requirement.
• No sharing with an adult or teenage male household member.
• No recording devices where she sleeps, changes or bathes.
• Access to basic bathroom and toiletries.
• Shelter and protection from dangerous equipment or substances.

Practical recommendations (not MOM-stated legal minimums):

• Provide personal storage (wardrobe, cabinet or lockable space) she can access freely, including for her passport and Work Permit card.
• Meeting the minimum requirements does not automatically mean the arrangement is comfortable or sustainable.

Preparation checklist

• ☐ Identify the sleeping area and check it against MOM’s requirements above.
• ☐ Provide bedding and storage (wardrobe, cabinet or lockable space).
• ☐ Check ventilation and ensure adequate airflow.
• ☐ Ensure she can secure her belongings, including her passport and Work Permit card, privately.
• ☐ If sharing a room with a child for care purposes, discuss the privacy arrangement and ensure it meets MOM’s expectations.
• ☐ Ensure access to bathroom facilities with privacy.
